Fleet Captain (2373)
A Fleet Captain was senior to a Captain and below a Commdore. Traditionally the rank was awarded to Captains that commanded an Admiral's flagship, making them senior to all other Captains under the flag officer's command, regardless of seniority.
During the Dominion War many senior Captains were promoted to Fleet Captain and placed in command of small task forces or strategic areas of space.
